THE STATE GOVERNMENT of Karnataka in India has signed a memorandum of understanding for two water services projects with a consortium led by Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux and Vivendi Water.
The French companies are to take over the operation of two projects involving evaluation of existing facilities and the provision of water and wastewater services to two groups of residents in the city of Bangalore over a five-year period. A proposal on the long-term plans for the city would then be submitted to the state government.
Jean Nassau, a vice-president of SLdE, said that delegated water management programmes were important in a country such as India. Available resources needed to be developed effectively to be made available to the entire population. The SLdE consortium includes the Northumbrian Water Group and Bovis Lend Lease.
