Bucaramanga studies Peru’s Chillon model

REPRESENTATIVES FROM Colombian water works company Compañia del Acuenducto Metropolitano de Bucaramanga visited Peru’s state-owned Sedepal last month to study the concession mechanism used for the $80 million Rio Chillon drinking water project.

Bucaramanga is considering a similar model to develop a $200 million system to increase water supply to the municipalities of Floridablanca, Giron and Piedecuesta. The project consists of developing new water sources, building a 30Mm3 reservoir with a 70m earth dam, a 22km-long tunnel network, a WTP and a 20MW hydroelectric plant.
