* China’s Guangzhou Urban Construction Commission has voted for an 80% increase in wastewater tariffs.
Customers currently pay just USD0.10/m3 for wastewater treatment, but the increase has touched a nerve in China. The commission has been accused of running its wastewater system inefficiently, and overpaying its staff. The average salaries at the commission are 160% higher than the local average.
