This month’s chart is the result of a freedom of information request we recently put into the US Environmental Protection Agency.

We asked for details of every facility in the country with a wastewater discharge permit, and we were sent data on around 50,000 businesses, complete with their industry classification, telephone number, and the person responsible for the discharge.
