Israel unveils $300m temporary desal plan

Israel is considering temporary desalination plants to bridge the gap until its large-scale facilities come online. The price it is prepared to pay shows the seriousness of the situation.

The growing water shortage in Israel has led the Water Authority to look at short-term options for increasing the water supply by up to 274,000m3/d by the middle of next year. Two options are under consideration: temporary desalination plants along the country’s Mediterranean coast, and importing water.
