Spanish water privatisations gain popularity

Inspired by Madrid, a number of Spanish municipalities are looking to part-privatise their water systems. Public opposition is already rampant.

The decision by the Madrid regional government to raise capital through the sale of a 49% stake in Canal Isabel II (CYII) is now being echoed in a number of other Spanish cities.
