* Rome's leading utility Acea will finalise a joint venture with French giant Suez by the end of August, the Italian company's chairman, Giancarlo Cremonesi, told the Italian press at the end of May.

According to the plan drafted by Acea's adviser Mediobanca, each company would have a 50% stake in the new gas distribution business. The deal would probably have repercussions on the two companies' water sector activities.
