aqualia triumphs at New Cairo

The Spanish-Egyptian consortium has netted Egypt's flagship wastewater PPP project. The strong pipeline of upcoming projects should provide unsuccessful bidders with another bite at the cherry.

A joint-venture of aqualia and Egypt's Orascom Construction Industries has been awarded an EGP2.646 billion ($475 million) contract to build, own and operate a 250,000m3/d wastewater treatment plant in New Cairo, on the outskirts of the city of Cairo.

The 20-year contract includes a 2-year construction period starting in the fourth quarter of 2009.
