Italian watchdog finds increased compliance

A year-long investigation into possible breaches of the law by ATOs has concluded. The majority are now in compliance, but calls remain for centralised regulation.

Most municipality-owned water operators in Italy are now complying with relevant legislation covering in-house awards, according to Autorità Lavori Pubblici, the public works and services watchdog.

The year-long investigation was prompted by concerns over the potential overlap of management and control functions, which according to Italian water legislation should be kept separate (see GWI, July 2008, page 32).
