* The City of Evansville, Indiana, has voted to end private sector participation in the management of its water and wastewater facilities with effect from March 2010.

The reversion will end American Water and EMC’s existing contracts, whilst enabling the city to save $14 million over the next five years. “Private management has not fulfilled expectations nor provided the necessary level of industry expertise,” according to Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel.
