The resurgence in Asian listed water stocks last year was supported by renewed access to capital. The new environment could encourage more companies to recycle capital by spinning out business trusts.
After plunging by 47.5% in 2008, the Asian segment of the GWI Water Index rose 43% in 2009, although it still underperformed several of the region’s major stock indices (Singapore’s Straits Times Index was up 64%, for example, while the Shanghai Composite rose 80%).
