Water reuse for Don Quixote

Castilla-La Mancha has announced a €1bn plan which will raise the level of reuse in the region. The authorities are still reluctant to use private finance.

The autonomous government of Castilla-La Mancha, one of Spain’s largest regions, last month approved a €1 billion plan to bring wastewater treatment up to European directive standards by 2015. Spending on plant, sewerage and environmental improvements will cost an estimated €928 million, while a further €75 million per year will be required for operational expenditure.
