Agricultural run-off is threatening Israel’s southern coastal aquifer. Desalting the leachate will mean extra supplies for the National Water Carrier.
Mekorot is expanding a pilot project aimed at protecting Israel’s southern coastal aquifer from the threat of rising salinity.
The plan involves an investment of $150 million in two brackish water desalination plants that will eventually produce up to 82,190-95,890m3/d of fresh water that will be pumped into the national distribution network.
