Canada’s resistance to public-private partnerships in water has taken a new twist. The lack of transparency regarding Veolia’s compensation under a 30-year “assistance” contract in Winnipeg has caused a stir.
The Canadian city of Winnipeg agreed in a 19 May council meeting to hire Veolia Canada to both design and build upgrades for its sewage treatment plant, and to assist it in the running of the plant for 30 years.
