*The big story this month is the surprise award of the Saline Water Conversion Corporation’s 1,037,000 m3/d Ras Azzour desalination plant in Saudi Arabia to Doosan using multi-stage flash technology.
The award had been expected to go to low bidder ACWA Power Sasakura, which had offered multiple effect distillation technology, but the combination of a price cut by Doosan and a request for a different specification for the MED units swung the project in favour of the Koreans.
