AFRICAN CHALLENGES

* The government of Gabon is expected to publish in the next few weeks the conclusions of an audit of Société d’Energie et d’Eau du Gabon (SEEG), the company in charge of electricity and water production and distribution.

Veolia signed a 20-year concession with SEEG in 1997, but repeated interruptions in service provision have sparked widespread criticism. A mid-January offer by Henri Proglio’s EdF to buy out half of Veolia’s 51% stake in SEEG only serves to thicken the plot.
