Tomsk win sets Russian water operators against Veolia

The award to Veolia of a management services contract in Russia is being challenged in court by local firms. Continued government support and further reform will be needed to avoid similar clashes.

The conflict over Veolia’s recent winning of a management contract for Tomsk, one of Russia’s largest cities, is about to reach the courts in a controversy which could set a precedent for the future of private foreign investment in the country’s water sector.
