Copasa to spend over R$200 million in 2001

MINAS GERAIS state water company Companhia de Saneamento de Minas Gerais (Copasa) is to invest R$204 million (US$95 million) this year in infrastructure, 8.5% more than in 2000. Two-thirds of the investment, R$135.5 million (US$62.5 million), will come from the company’s own funds.
Copasa president Marcello Siqueira announced that the key element of the company’s Prosam basic sanitation project – the Arrudas WwTP – would be ready in May. The US$50 million Arrudas WwTP at Sabará will begin primary treatment, removing 60% of solids and 40% of organic waste from the River Arrudas.
