Eleven desal plants for Libya

LIBYA plans to commission eleven desalination plants with a combined capacity of 700,000m<sup>3</sup>/d in the coming decade, according to Omran Ibrahim Abukraa of the Secretary of the People’s Committee running the General Electricity Company of Libya (Gecol).

The largest of the schemes, in the capital Tripoli, will have a capacity of 250,000m3/d.

International consultants have submitted bids for the contract to prepare initial designs and studies. Work is already under way on three other plants in Tobruk, Zuara and the central coastal city of Sirte. Each will have a capacity of 40,000m3 ...
