Uganda puts water losses in the spotlight

UGANDA’S NATIONAL WATER AND SEWERAGE CORPORATION (NWSC) has launched a campaign to boost revenue collection and reduce the number of illegal water connections. The plan follows similar two-pronged strategies in other Ugandan utilities.
NWSC has formed a joint taskforce with the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company to share information on tackling waste and theft.
Total water losses including theft and leakage have fallen sharply from 60% in 1998 to 39%. In Kampala, the figures are even more impressive, with a 28% loss rate standing out in a continent where rates in excess of 40 ...
