Our analysis of the 20 deals completed over the past year (see pp.9-11) makes for interesting reading – mainly because some of the deals which were expected are not there. Just four deals are from the Americas, although none of these were from South America and there was at least one sorely missed North American deal: New Orleans.

There were eight deals in Asia, but six of these were from China with none from South East Asia. Europe, the traditional heartland of private water provision, provided the best growth in value terms, but Africa – the continent which arguably has most to gain from private water investment – did not see a single private sector deal completed.
