A sleepy start to 2002

January was yet another sleepy month for the UK water industry. Water company share prices showed little movement with light trading for the month.

The FTSE Water Index moved into positive numbers during the middle of the month, but could not sustain the increase and finished January down slightly at 2628.73, a 1.1% decline. Meanwhile, the FTSE 100 softened 53.51 points, a 1% drop for January.
