São Francisco transfer gets $800 million boost from Spain

Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Trade formally signed a US$800 million credit for Brazil’s São Francisco river transfer project last month.

The deal was sealed by Brazil’s Minister for National Integration, Ney Suassuna. Brazil is hoping to learn from Spain’s experience with the 240km Tagus transfer scheme.

The aim of the project is to improve water supplies to 12 million people living in four states in Brazil’s northeast region. The states are Pernambuco, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte ...
