Perth weighs up private desal option

Five groups have been shortlisted to build a 100,000m<sup>3</sup>/d seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant near Perth, Western Australia. If it receives approval from the Western Australian government – expected in the next six to eight weeks – the plant will be commissioned and enter commercial operation at the end of July 2004.

The shortlist of five includes IDE advised by PricewaterhouseCoopers, a team of Ondeo and Multiplex advised by KPMG, Thames Water and John Holland advised by Deutsche Bank, a Clough/Ionics/ Halliburton consortium advised by ABN Amro, and a team of Vivendi, United Utilities and Walter Construction advised by Macquarie Bank.
