Two bid for Algerian desal plant

ONLY TWO BIDS HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED for a contract to build a new joint venture desalination plant at Hamma, a suburb of the Algerian capital, Algiers (see GWI, Vol. 3, Issue 4, p.11). Eight companies and groups had purchased tender documents.
The two bidders are a US-Spanish consortium which includes Black & Veatch; and Italy’s Ansaldo Energia. The client is the state-owned Algerian Energy Company (AEC).
Early designs called for a plant with a capacity of 130,000-150,000m3/d although this was subsequently raised to 200,000m3/d. The successful bidder will form a joint venture with AEC ...
