Kenya mulls private sector option

Deregulation of the Kenyan water sector and attempts to allow services to be run by international private water companies continue to be dogged by political opposition.

Disputes between local and national politicians have caused several initiatives to falter, while even 100% donor funded projects have been discouraged by political infighting. Now, however, a new National Water Bill is working its way through parliament and could enable concessions to be offered once it passes into law.
