Petrolina concession beckons

THE CITY COUNCIL OF PETROLINA in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco is involved in detailed discussions with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) with a view to preparing its basic sanitation services for privatisation.

IFC is currently assessing the assets of Pernambuco state water company Companhia Pernambucana de Saneamento (Compese) in Petrolina and is drawing up a model for the new city concessionaire (Aguas de Petrolina) regarding its future privatisation. IFC will report its findings to the Brazilian federal government and Petrolina city council by the end of the year.
