Italian PSP gets political again

Rules that would have given local authorities greater flexibility in assigning services to private firms have been scrapped from a new fast-track law going through parliament.

Just as the pace at which concessions to run water services in the newly established optimal territorial areas (Ambiti Territoriali Ottimali, or ATOs) was starting to accelerate, the Italian political system has dealt yet another blow to the hopes of private operators and investors seeking a position in the water sector.
