Veolia took the biggest water deal of the year just before Christmas when it was awarded a 50-year contract for outsourcing water services in the city of Shenzhen worth €8.5 billion.
Shenzhen, which is near the border with Hong Kong, is one of China’s special economic zones and has a fast-growing population of more than 2.2 million. Veolia’s partner in the deal, the Beijing Capital Group – a state-owned enterprise which started out as part of the Beijing Municipal Government – is aggressively expanding its financial interests across the country ...
