Municipal elections in São Paulo on 1 November should make life easier for Sabesp, the São Paulo state water company which is quoted on the New York Stock Exchange.
The city selected former health minister, Senator Jose Serra, as mayor. Serra belongs to the PSDB (social democrats) the same party as the state governor. The outgoing mayor was Marta Suplicy of the president’s PT (Workers’ Party). She had argued the city should have the right to control Sabesp investment within its area.
