The Chinese government has spread the scope of foreign investment in the water sector to cover the central and western regions of the country.

An amendement to ‘The Industrial Catalogue for Foreign Investment in the Central and Western Regions’ allows foreign companies to invest in cities with a population of less than 1 million for the first time, although there are still restrictions on foreign control.
