DESAL PROGRESS

It was a good month for Poseidon Resources, the US desal plant developer which has been battling to get the go-ahead for three projects (see Tracker, p32).

Its flagship proposal – a 50MGD (190,000m3/d) plant based at the Encina power station in Carlsbad – took a step forward with an agreement with the City of Carlsbad to take 25MGD from the plant. At the same time, there has been a thawing of relations between Poseidon and the San Diego County Water Authority.
