Marubeni’s change of heart

In 2004, the Japanese company would have nothing to do with Saudi deals. Since then it has agreed to develop a power and water plant for the Rabigh refinery and is looking like a serious contender for the Shuqaiq IWPP.

In a 2004 interview with GWI, president of Marubeni Europower Masumi Kakinoki ruled out his company’s participation in Saudi Arabian IWPPs. At the time, the Japanese company had just been named first-ranked bidder for Abu Dhabi’s Taweelah B project and Kakinoki was eager to point out the differences between the two markets.
