$1bn for basic sanitation in Brazil

Lula’s government is serious about investing in the wastewater sector.

The Brazilian government recently announced plans to spend R$2.2 billion (US$1 billion) on sanitation. The funds will be used for initiating or expanding existing water supply, sewerage and solid waste disposal projects. The monies will be made available through the ministry for cities to state and municipal governments as well as concessionaires, public and private companies.
