Funding snag for Chennai desal

India’s desal industry is set for take-off but it needs more coordinated support from state and central governments.

Chennai Metro’s proposed desalination plant looks set to be dogged by state versus national government infighting, despite recent progress on the tender. Four groups submitted bids for the 100,000-200,000m3/d project to be sited at Minjur, but the central government has yet to finalise details of a grant for the Rs10 billion ($230 million) project.
