Unbundling rule affects water sector

An EU directive aimed at separating energy assets means that water assets are also being spun off by German municipalities.

A requirement for unbundling of marketing and power generation activities from the energy networks in the gas and electricity sector is influencing developments in the water business of communal and other utility companies. Water networks and water marketing may increasingly be separated to allow synergies with the unbundled activities of the gas and electricity sectors.
