After a very dry winter and the beginning of a hot summer, drought is starting to bite across Europe, with water use restrictions being introduced across Italy, Spain, France and the UK.
Dry years have benefited private water companies in the past as demand increases and investment plans (together with their permitted rate of return) are brought forward. It isn’t bad enough in the UK, however (see story p11).
Drought is also a problem in Australia and parts of South East Asia. Parts of Malaysia have introduced rationing and tankered water ...
