Israel faces up to its desalination challenge

Incoming water commissioner Uri Shani has his work cut out to meet the country’s desalination targets. There may be light at the end of the tunnel.

Israel is now expected to reach only about 75% of its 2010 production target for desalinated water, following the expected cancellation of one project at Shomrat and delays at Ashdod. A priority for Uri Shani, the country’s new water commissioner, will now be to find options to reach the target as soon as possible.
