The US may not be seeing the same volume increases as Europe, but financial and regulatory restrictions on sludge applications still make for a buoyant market for some. Larry Chertoff reports.

Sewage sludge has been a 30 year flower in bloom for those who treat and dispose of it in the US. Through the 1972 Clean Water Act, US EPA was charged with responsibility to require higher quality standards for wastewater treatment. This Act jump-started a moribund industry – sludge disposal.
