Five-year plan prioritises safe drinking water

Government investment in China’s water sector peaked in 2001, and will continue to fall, but making water safe to drink is now a priority.

Chinese minister for water, Wang Shucheng, has warned that government investment in the water sector will fall during the period of the 11th five-year plan (2006-2010) despite the growing challenges the sector faces.
