Municipalities across the country have been running out of alternatives to rate hikes. Fortunately, the public seems to understand.
Observers of the US water scene have noticed a new theme – requests for water and sewer rate increases are coming faster and the amounts requested are greater than ever. Apparently, municipal officials are pushing for water rates to reflect the value of the service delivered – full cost pricing. At the moment, property taxes subsidise water services.
