Sydney close to fast-track desal

With El Niño conditions persisting, the Australian city is getting ready to build fast. Max Borchardt reports.

Sydney Water has asked for expressions of interest on its proposed 125,000m3/d seawater reverse osmosis plant. Four companies (Degrémont, Veolia, GE Water and IDE) have been invited take part, although the project has yet to be given the go-ahead.

The official line is that dam levels have to reach 30% before the desalination plant can proceed ...
