The mechanism for the joint bid for control of Agbar has now been settled. There is still potential for conflict over energy interests in southern Europe.
New Spanish takeover regulations have obliged Suez and la Caixa to raise the offer price in their bid to gain control of Agbar, a move which is designed to pre-empt a hostile takeover attempt on Spain’s largest private water company.
