A new five-year plan aims to tackle Mexico City’s water sustainability crisis head on. It will have to make do without funding from the private sector.
Mexico’s federal water commission Conagua has warned that water sustainability in Mexico City and the surrounding Valley of Mexico is near breaking point, and has put forward a $3.5 billion five-year plan to prevent “a collapse in the area’s water system,” Conagua director Jose Luis Luege said.
