Israel’s desal programme moves up a gear

The start-up of the Palmachim plant is the latest step in Israel’s desalination programme. Revised capacity targets mean there is still more to be done.

Israel’s second desalination plant on the Mediterranean Sea has been brought online at Palmachim, 15km south of Tel Aviv. The running-in of the 82,200m3/d facility began in early May, and the plant is slated to begin delivering water to the Mekorot Water Company by the end of the month.
