* The Consumer Council for Water put a dampener on UK water companies’ results by reporting that complaints have reached their highest level since 1994, up 10% in 2006-7.

Billing systems were the main culprits, with four companies bearing the brunt of the complaints: Severn Trent, South East Water, Southern and United Utilities. CCWater Chair Dame Yve Buckland called for “more levers and incentives in the regulatory system to stimulate innovation, particularly in the area of customer service.”
