Queensland has simplified its bulk water delivery model. Local councils are concerned over the loss of their revenue-generating assets.

In the wake of the heated debate about dams, pipelines, desalination and recycling, Queensland premier Peter Beattie has introduced legislation to rationalize the collection, supply and delivery of water to the people of South East Queensland. The principal focus is on the Local governments, which will be stripped of most responsibility for matters to do with water.
