The debate rages on over whether private wastewater companies in Germany should enjoy the same tax privileges as municipally owned companies. A resolution could be a long way off.
Germany’s privately-owned wastewater and waste disposal companies are taking the battle over tax privileges for communally owned companies to the next level. Just over a year ago, the federal waste disposal federation BDE (Bundesverband der Deutschen Entsorgungswirtschaft) lodged a formal complaint about communal tax privileges in the wastewater sector with the European Commission.
