Israel earmarks desalinated water for domestic use

A significant proportion of Israel’s desalinated water could be diverted away from agriculture to meet the needs of domestic customers. Implementation could still be a long way off.

The Israeli government has approved a programme to expand the country’s desalination capacity to 1,383,500m3/d by 2013.

The 1st July decision calls for the construction of two new facilities along the Mediterranean coast with a total capacity of 548,000m3/d, and the expansion of existing or approved plants at Ashkelon, Palmachim
and Hadera ...
