* Continued rainfall is easing the drought situation in Australia, but the desalination projects continue to pile up.

Sydney’s reservoirs are now nearly 60% full, but the city is pressing on with its 250,000m3/d desal plant, awarding a Veolia-led consortium preferred bidder status (see Desal Tracker). The state of Victoria is squaring up to the water resources challenge with a A$6.5 billion programme of desalination, pipelines and recycling (see story p28).
